Twin Draw

Comparison · iPhone

A Locket alternative where you draw instead.

Locket made the home-screen widget a place for your friends' photos, and it is enormously more popular than this app. Twin Draw borrows the idea and changes the medium: instead of a photo you took, it's a canvas you both draw on, live — and instead of twenty friends, exactly one person.

Checked on against the Locket Widget.

A canvas, not a camera

Locket is built around photos and videos: you take one, and it lands on your friends' home screens. Twin Draw is built around strokes. You both draw on the same square canvas and the lines appear on the other screen in a couple hundred milliseconds. There is no send button and nothing to save first.

That makes it a different kind of thing to use. A photo is a moment you captured; a drawing is something you made for one specific person, usually badly, usually in thirty seconds. Twin Draw never asks for photo library access and does not collect photos at all.

One person, and four widgets that assume it

Locket lets you add up to 20 friends. Twin Draw pairs with exactly one account, which sounds like a restriction until you see what it buys: because there is one other person, the app can show their local time with a sleep indicator, how many days you've been together, a countdown to your next reunion, and the distance between your two cities.

Those four exist because Twin Draw was built for people a few time zones apart. The distance widget works from a city you pick from a fixed list — no GPS, and the app never requests location access.

Nothing to subscribe to

Everything Twin Draw does is free: drawing together, saving drawings, the shared sketchbook, and all five widgets. There is no premium tier, no advertising in the app and no third-party analytics.

Where Locket is the better choice

Locket is in a different league of maturity — 4.8 stars from around 582,000 ratings and an Apple Editors' Choice badge, against a few hundred users here. If you want to share with a group of friends rather than one person, or you want to send real photos and videos and get monthly recaps, Locket does all of that and Twin Draw does none of it. Locket also supports an older iOS, and its interface is more widely localised: the Twin Draw app is English-only for now, even though this page isn't.

Questions

What is the best Locket alternative for couples?

If you want a widget for one specific person rather than a group, Twin Draw is a shared drawing canvas for exactly two people, with four extra widgets built for long distance: your partner's local time, your days together, a reunion countdown and the distance between your cities. It is free on iPhone and requires iOS 17 or later.

Is there an app like Locket but for drawing?

Yes. Twin Draw works on the same idea — content on each other's home screen widget — but the content is a live shared drawing canvas rather than a photo. Strokes appear on both screens within a couple hundred milliseconds, with no send button.

How many people can I use Twin Draw with?

One. An account pairs with exactly one other account. Locket allows up to 20 friends; Twin Draw is deliberately limited to two people.

Does Twin Draw have a subscription like Locket Gold?

No. Twin Draw has no subscription and no premium tier. Drawing, saving, the shared sketchbook and all five widgets are free.

Can Twin Draw send photos like Locket?

No. Twin Draw sends drawings only, and never requests access to your photo library.
